Johanna Konta, Heather Watson, Jocelyn Rae, and Laura Robson will all remain in the Fed Cup team for Great Britain. It has been announced that the chosen representatives to face Romania remain the same.
The Great Britain Fed Cup team will make the trip to Constanta to play in the World Group two play-offs. They are already training vigorously for the outdoor clay tournament due to take place 22nd -23rd April.
Despite the talent that forms the team, they won’t be favourites in the competition. They will hope to cement themselves amongst the top teams that compete for the first time since 1993.
Opposing team Romania have not announced who will play for them yet but tough competition will be delivered by Simona Halep who has said that she will play for her home country. Romania have four players in the top one hundred players in the world.
Johanna Konta, who is well and truly on form having won the Miami open in Florida earlier this year, is Britain’s highest ranked player listed at world number seven. Heather Watson is next in line, but sits below the top one hundred.
British captain Anne Keothavong has said, that although Romania have a first class team, Great Britain will have an advantage on clay. She stated that the team’s spirit is high, and that between the women they have plenty of experience to bring to the play-offs. She also cited that Konta is currently playing some of the best tennis of her career, tennis that Great Britain hopes can be brought to the courts in Constanta.
